WNBA star Brittney Griner, who spent 10 months in Russian custody on drug fees, is asking for the discharge of Wall St. Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who has been detained there and accused of spying.
Griner mentioned on Instagram she is anxious for his security and urged President Joe Biden to take motion.
Gershkovich was arrested by Russian authorities final Thursday and accused of spying. He’s the primary US journalist for the reason that Chilly Warfare to be detained by Russia.
Griner was convicted by a Russian courtroom for possession of hashish oil in 2022. She was launched in a controversial prisoner swap.
The Instagram message from Griner and spouse Cherelle was posted Saturday.
“Our hearts are stuffed with nice concern for Evan Gershkovich and his household since Evan’s detainment in Russia.” They added, “Each American who’s taken is ours to combat for and each American returned is a win for us all.”
The Wall Road Journal has denied the spying cost. President Biden spoke out within the media and Friday to inform the Russians to “Let him go.” US officers haven’t been in a position to contact Gershkovich since his arrest.
