Lionsgate UK has locked a cope with Zygi Kamasa’s True Brit Leisure to launch the Ian McKellen pic The Critic.
The studio will launch the characteristic in UK and Irish cinemas on Friday 13 September.
The movie stars McKellen (The Lord of the Rings, X-Males) alongside Gemma Arterton (The King’s Man, Humorous Lady), Mark Sturdy (1917, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Alfred Enoch (How To Get Away With Homicide, The Couple Subsequent Door), Romola Garai (One Life, Scoop), Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone) and Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris).
Set in Nineteen Thirties London, the pic is described as “an exciting story of ambition, blackmail, and need with a stunning anti-hero at its coronary heart.” The synopsis reads: When essentially the most feared and cruel theatre critic on the town Jimmy Erskine (Mckellen), finds himself out of the blue within the cross hairs of the Every day Chronicle’s new proprietor David Brooke (Sturdy), he strikes a Faustian pact with struggling actress Nina Land (Arterton) who’s determined to win his favor.
The screenplay was tailored from Anthony Quinn’s novel Curtain Name by author Patrick Marber (Nearer, Notes on a Scandal). The movie is directed by Anand Tucker (Hilary & Jackie, Shopgirl), and produced by the late Invoice Kenwright’s BK Studios alongside Jolyon Symonds for Fearless Minds, and Anand Tucker’s Seven Tales.
